This week’s Si2 OpenAccess Conference focused on system-level design standards

Richard Goering has just published a blog entry on the discussion of system-level design standards at this week’s 15th Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2) OpenAccess Conference. Steve Schulz, Si2 president and CEO, said that system complexity involves “problems of the large,” an area that’s less understood and more abstract that RTL-to-GDSII design, yet crucial to meet the potential of raw silicon. Cadence Chief Strategy Officer Charlie Huang also spoke and said that most EDA standards have focused on the problems surrounding RTL-to-GDSII design and that there is a “pressing need” to tie software and hardware together through a standardized environment. The EDA360 pillars of System Realization and SoC Realization revolve around design standards above the RTL-to-GDSII plane.

Richard Goering wrote in his blog entry: “In my view as a long-time observer, most EDA standards efforts have focused on digital RTL-to-GDSII design, which is a small part of what’s needed to get a product out the door.” You can read all of Richard’s coverage of this event here.
