According to this article on Techspot.com, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang told the audience at the Reuters Technology Summit in New York that Android tablets will overtake Apple’s iPad in 30 months. He said that it took the Android phone about 2.5 years to reach the momentum it now enjoys in the cellular arena and that he expects that Android tablets will achieve the same success in a bit longer time. He also commented that the Honeycomb 3.1 OS for Android tablets is significantly better than Honeycomb 3.0 thanks to the hard work of the entire community.
Open operating systems such as Android/Honeycomb are reshaping the way products like tablets get designed and these large software projects are also reaching down into and changing the hardware design and the associated IC designs for these products. That’s the EDA360 premise, clearly demonstrated by these Android/Honeycomb tablets and by Nvidia’s Tegra 2 application processor, which is based on two ARM Cortex-A9 processor cores.
